The Argentina national football team has won 3 FIFA World Cups, one in 1978 and one in 1986, and now in 2022, making them one of the most successful national groups in the world. Argentina has been runner-up three times - in 1930, 1990, and 2014.
1978 World Cup
Mighty Argentina won the FIFA World Cup for the first and last time in 1978, and this is two years after the military coup that led to an incredibly controversial match.
Argentina was on the verge of withdrawing from this tournament in the 2nd round. They needed to beat Peru with at least four accurate goals to get through, but ultimately they beat their South Americans with a full 6 wishes before beating the Netherlands in the very last game.
1986 World Cup
Argentina automatically qualified for the World Cup finals in Spain in 1982, becoming the defending champions, but ultimately failed, finishing eleventh. However, in Mexico in '86, they returned to fashion and won their second-ever World Championship just 8 years after the first.
As with the 1978 World Cup, the success of 1986 was further shrouded in controversy thanks to the great player of the match Diego Maradona. During their quarterfinal game in England, he bent down to challenge a crossed ball with English goalkeeper Peter Shilton and punched it into the bottom of the goal.
Officials neglected handball, later called the “Hand of God". It turned into an extra game in which Maradona scored what many fans consider to be one of the dreams of a quality World Cup.
Argentina beat Uruguay, Belgium, and England to the last before winning the World Cup with a 3-2 victory over West Germany at the Azteca Stadium. The best match of the “Hand of God” took place at the same stadium seven days earlier.
2022 World Cup
In what must have been the most heartbreaking way to stop the confrontation, Argentina won 2-1 on penalties, interrupting an exhausting draw with a score of 3:3. This not only helped Argentina to tell live about the epic French comebacks but also allowed Kylian Mbappe to score a hat-trick.
The World Cup final exceeded all expectations. It turned into a spectacle. Saves. There have been times when it seemed to you that you were watching a car accident taking place in the region.
When Argentina was on the verge of glory, their hearts were almost ripped out of their chests. Fans take a bath after goals have been saved and after wishes have been canceled. Only after the 2-zero advantage became 2-2, and three-2 turned into 3-three. Argentina directly won the penalty shootout with a score of 4:2.
Argentina is a country where there is no escape from contradictions. Diego Maradona supplied the Brazilian left-back with a drink with tranquilizers throughout the match of the 1/2 finals of the 1990 World Cup against Brazil. He refused.

Maradona, however, was at the peak of his form, so he didn't need the help of these pills. Instead, his meteoric run led Claudio Caniggia to the most productive intention in the sport, sending the Argentina national football team to the semifinals.
Then they beat Yugoslavia and Italy on penalties, and in 1990 they lost to West Germany in the very last match.
In the five World Cups that followed, Argentina failed to make it past the semifinals, but they made up for their negative results in Brazil in 2014 after reaching the very last place again and losing to Germany again.
Although many fans consider Argentina to be a modern force in world football, their self-realization is in many ways similar to the fact that they also took second place at the first-ever World Cup most recently. This match took place in Uruguay in 1930 and was tied with only 13 matches in the direction of 18 suits.
