De Bruyne wins EPL Player of the Season for the 2nd time in his career

It is time for some football news to be received and the headlines are out there. There are two sides to every story so before anyone jumps on a bandwagon you must understand what’s really going on. While we always want our opinions, this article will be written solely from the player’s perspective and what I think they need to feel after such a year for them to continue playing at their best on the pitch. And while we all have something different feel as to why a certain striker or even captain has performed better than others in recent years it makes no real sense to try and compare them to each other and only talk about one player when there are lots of important players like myself that have had more success than the rest of us. When it comes to stats, we love to dig into them because it makes us feel powerful and lets us analyze how much data we have in our possession. So let’s get a little bit deeper into how De Bruyne is performing at his best.

De Bruyne Voted

De Bruyne was voted man of the match in Real Madrid’s derby win over Elche which saw him score two goals and provide an assist. In other words, he played very well in the game and gave everyone exactly what they needed to win the derby to reach 1 point. If we were to take a look around Europe’s top leagues the season to date for the Belgian player looks like one of the best seasons of the club he plays for with 14 goals and seven assists. To put this into context De Bruyne’s previous season is not great, to say the least. After losing five games of last season to Manchester United it looked like there would be no chance of winning a title and looking at the form De Bruyne already found himself struggling against a relegation battler like Man City, Liverpool, and Tottenham. So his form was definitely not where most fans would have expected it to be in terms of winning the league and getting the silverware. He finally got the ball and his quality shone through. He had been outstanding yet again in another 4-1 comeback victory over Alaves but it didn’t quite seem like he was comfortable enough to give anyone a shot of being victorious. Even though it would be hard to say if things will improve for this young player given already having just missed out on Champions League silverware, it is still very tempting to see him play as quickly and as efficiently as possible to boost his confidence.

Now we are starting to discuss how he might be doing his best and he’s certainly enjoying the extra attention he gets from his teammates and his manager despite the fact that the team is currently hovering between midtable and bottom of the table. We can observe that by scoring and assisting he scores twice as many goals as any of his teammates on average which allows him to dominate the center forward role. And yes, I know he does play the same style of soccer that has worked for all those teams, however, he is also capable of scoring both centrally and down the wings so he has been able to find ways of creating goals for his teammates. Along with his goal tally, he is now also making more chances on the goalscoring front, which makes him more effective in terms of finding the back of the net without getting a lot of assistance. This isn’t to say he hasn’t made a few mistakes, it simply shows he’s learning and is improving the talent in the squad to keep up with Harry Kane.

Bruyne Midfielders Advantage

The midfielders have taken advantage of his creativity and ability to score goals with them. They’re almost too often attacking rather than defending and putting pressure on the opposition to concede. Maybe that’s not the best combination though they’re usually capable of turning quick counterattacks around. What he’s done is create goalscoring opportunities for his teammates and create assists for his teammates. We can then assume how good he is at adapting and how effective he’ll be in taking advantage of these situations to make things happen. And once again, it doesn’t look like it’s anything serious we can expect him to stay fit and strong throughout the remainder of the season.

With his ability to score goals at a high rate, his pace, and a number of other qualities I’m sure this season De Bruyne will go on and enjoy a career that will benefit him and his team. Let’s hope he keeps scoring and helping other guys find good pockets of space on the right side of the penalty area on occasions. Here’s hoping his performances in this season’s competition show that he should be a key component of the next generation of Manchester United players.
